1. Please introduce yourself and give us the backstory on how you got started.
MOD SUN…it stands for Movement On Dreams Stand Under None. I started as a drummer in post hardcore bands Scary Kids Scaring Kids + Four Letter Lie. I always dreamed of holding the mic + in 2009 I started what I’m doing now.
2. How would you describe your music?
My music has grown just like a human in life…it changes + evolves over time. 10 years of rapping, 5 years of singing. The songs can be in your face or delicate, but everything has an underlying tone of positivity…whether it be overcoming drug addiction or never giving up on your dreams, it’s always there.
3. Who are your biggest influences?
Bob Dylan…that’s my hero. That’s who I model my career of always adapting after. Goo Goo Dolls music helped me find my singing register. Blink-182 got me playing drums + falling in love with music. Lately, I think Cigarettes After Sex is incredible.
4. What was the inspiration behind your current single?
It’s all true stories about my life. I don’t write fiction because it just simply doesn’t work like that for me. It’s about my last relationship with a beautiful + complex human who could have the world at her fingertips if she wasn’t so addicted to chaos. It’s her life story. The lyrics, “I’m falling for you, it’s a long way down” are exactly that. I loved this girl + there’s nothing I could do about that, but I knew from the start there was an ending. “I know I won’t be the last to love you”…that lyric gets me.
5. What would surprise people most about you?
Last year I moved out of the city into a cabin where I’ve been recording this entire new album.
