This Week’s New Music Discovery Downloads

Amigo The Devil “Stray Dog” (Liars Club/Regime Music Group)

Austin-based Amigo The Devil releases his new single “Stray Dog” from his third studio album, Yours Until The War Is Over, out February 23rd via Liars Club/Regime Music Group. The record was self-produced and recorded in a backwoods bar-turned-studio, and songs are riddled with obscure literary references – akin to songwriter Danny Kiranos’ maniac reading habit – collectively proving that this whole Amigo The Devil Thing isn’t some true crime niche. Yours Until the War Is Over is a songwriter’s record.

Amigo The Devil says, “‘Stray Dog’ is a three-legged dog of its own identity in the Amigo catalog, considering it’s the only song I’ve recorded for this project that I initially wrote for someone else’s record. They didn’t want it. Years later, that damn dog kept coming around and I could only react by feeding it. Even though meant for someone else, I find it funny that it was still written from a deeply personal moment in time for me that would have probably been confusing to hear another person sing, so I’m grateful for the rejection. Much like the sentiment of the lyrics themselves, the birth of this dog is further proof that one person’s junkyard is another’s playground, and neither should be judged on which side of that pile they prefer to be on. Bark, bark.”

Amigo The Devil is on tour with Flogging Molly through March 15th with more U.S. tour dates with Frank Turner in May & June.

Catfish And The Bottlemen “Showtime” (Capitol)

British 4-piece Catfish And The Bottlemen return with their first new music in five years. The band released their new single “Showtime” on February 22nd via Capitol. It’s the first single from their forthcoming fourth album. Frontman, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Van McCann recorded the song in Los Angeles with multi-GRAMMY winning producer Dave Sardy (Oasis, LCD Soundsystem, Rolling Stones).

Catfish And The Bottlemen will be headlining UK’s Reading and Leeds Festival in August. The band teased the announcement with a high-energy performance clip with mysterious “Showtimes” flypostered globally, prompting Catfish And The Bottlemen’s instagram to receive over 100,000 likes in under 24 hours.

Grouplove “Chances” (Glassnote)

Atlanta-based Grouplove has a brand new single “Chances” and it arrives on lead singer Hannah Hooper’s birthday February 23rd via Glassnote. She shares: “It’s my birthday today! I feel so so grateful to be heading out on tour with my family. And our new song “CHANCES” came out today! Supposedly it’s doing really well in Japan! Turn it up loud and let’s take some risks in our life! I wouldn’t be here without having taken a lot of chances that I was greatly advised not to take! Please don’t listen the man, listen to your heart and f@ckin go for it! Life is short. I’m getting old as shit I would know. Thank you for all the love and support this GL family is a magical GROUP!! Can’t wait to all be together. Grouplove has headline tour dates beginning February 28th in Seattle.”

New Music Friday With I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME

Salt Lake City-based I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME (iDKHOW) sophomore album, GLOOM DIVISION, is out today via Concord. It’s the follow up to the 2020 RAZZMATAZZ.

GLOOM DIVISION was produced by Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, MGMT, Weezer), showcases a boundary-pushing fusion of R&B, post-punk and art-pop, exploring themes ranging from love and obsession to satanic panic and neurodivergence. The album was recorded at Fridmann’s Tarbox Road Studios and in singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Dallon Weekes’ basement studio.

“Writing has always been an outlet to exorcize your demons or difficult emotions, but with GLOOM DIVISION I made a conscious effort to stop censoring myself when it comes to the subject material, or what I wanted to say,” said Weekes.
