1. Please introduce yourself and give us the backstory on how you got started.
️My name is SMI️TH + I started writing songs as a kid. They weren’t good songs, just my feelings expressed through semi melodic words. My mom worked in a recording studio and parents played in bands together and separately, so music as a job was pretty normalized for me. It really is just what I do regardless of whether or not anyone is listening. I’m like a farmer of songs. Farmer SM️ITH.
2. How would you describe your music?
A ride. Hopefully a good one.
3. Who are your biggest influences?
Musically, I think I’ve been mostly influenced by songs. I love so many songs, it’s endless. Idk about artists, again, so many. A few would be Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Alanis Morrisette, Peter Gabriel, Ani DiFranco, The Chicks, Billy Joel, Tina Turner, Nina Simone, Eminem, Doja Cat and like a million others. I’m influenced by everything, good or bad.
4. What was the inspiration behind your current single?
It’s a true story and I felt like it was time to let it go. I feel like the lyrics are embarrassingly literal so it’s pretty obvious what it’s about. The inspiration was the event itself.
5. What would surprise people most about you?
Probably anything at this point because such little is known about me, so thank you for asking! It might surprise people to know that much of the music I make is created in GarageBand. It’s free, so if making beats, producing, being an artist or songwriter interests you, don’t let anything keep you from trying. It’s music, there are no real rules other than does it sound good and do you love it.
