1. Please introduce yourself and give us the backstory on how you got started.
Hey! I’m Ekoh, an independent musician from Las Vegas. Growing up in a broken home surrounded by drug addiction and mental health struggles, music became my escape. As a lonely kid, it was my way of feeling connected to the world. Eventually, I started writing my own songs to express what I was going through and to hopefully reach others who felt the same.
I taught myself music production early on to save some cash, and I began recording my own tracks. I started sharing my music independently and, little by little, found my audience through social media. After a few years, I hit the road and started touring. In 2018, after building a solid following, I took the leap and quit my job to focus on music full-time. I’ve been releasing my own music and funding my own label ever since. Over those five years, I’ve toured hard, released a ton of music, and my sound has evolved into what you hear today.
2. How would you describe your music?
“HEART HOP” truly captures the essence of my music. It’s this powerful blend of hip hop, rock, and alternative, anchored by deeply emotional lyrics. Even when the sound gets heavy, I’m always laying my soul on the line, creating a connection that’s both intense and authentic. It’s about bringing energy while inviting listeners to reflect and feel something real. Each song is a mixing of strength, vulnerability, and introspection.
3. Who are your biggest influences?
My musical influences are a big reflection of the hybrid nature of my sound. Linkin Park, Tupac, Eminem, Papa Roach, System Of A Down, Atmosphere, Slipknot. Anything underground hip hop, and huge Rock/Metal.
4. What was the inspiration behind your current single?
“Good Things” came from a conversation between Lo Spirit and I discussing adulthood. Growing up and discovering all the stressors of REAL LIFE. When they pile up you can start to question where all the things that used to bring you happiness went. There’s a feeling of emptiness in those moments. This explores the question, “Is all I’ll be a broken thing?” and holds onto hope for more good to come.
5. What would surprise people most about you?
People might be surprised to learn that even though my music tackles some heavy themes, I have a pretty laid-back side. I try to find humor in everyday moments and appreciate the lighter aspects of life. I think it’s important. Also, I’m not a huge sports guy but I do still skateboard and am obsessed with the culture.
