1. Please introduce yourself and give us the backstory on how the band got started.
I’m Steven Nathan, lead singer of Don’t Believe In Ghosts. The band came together initially as a songwriting project and quickly developed into a full band. Our vision has always been about breaking free from the past and focusing on the present. The name Don’t Believe In Ghosts represents not giving energy to the ghosts of your past and trying to live more in the moment. We’ve since poured that philosophy into our music, creating songs that resonate with the idea of looking forward, connecting with others, and celebrating each new day.
2. How would you describe your music?
Our sound is alternative indie pop rock, laced with the spirit and pulse of New York. We strive to create music that’s uplifting, with anthemic hooks and a drive that moves people—both emotionally and physically. It’s a mix of catchy melodies, introspective lyrics, and high-energy production. We’re influenced by a bit of everything, but our music always comes back to that feeling of connection and optimism, even in the face of life’s challenges.
3. Who are your biggest influences?
I love discovering new music and ideas… challenging what I used to know, and not spending too much time looking back on the music I grew up on. All that stuff plays a big part, of course, as it’s the starting point. But I’m most inspired by finding new music and artists that create art regardless of who listens.
4. What was the inspiration behind your current single?
Our latest single, Brooklyn Baby, is a tribute to the people who leave everything behind to pursue their dreams in New York City. It’s about that universal feeling of taking a chance on something bigger and stepping into the unknown, with the hope of finding a place that feels like home. Co-written and produced with my friend and Grammy-winning producer Ken Lewis, Brooklyn Baby captures that energy of excitement and possibility—something that’s core to the city and the people drawn to it. We wanted to channel that feeling of boldness and the unbreakable spirit of those who are driven by passion. Really this song can be about anywhere that may get you to wonder who else you could be if you left it all behind.
