1. Please introduce yourself and give us he backstory on how and give us the backstory on how Mystic Knights got started.
I’m Chris Cester, the drummer and co-songwriter in JET. I was writing a lot of songs out of nowhere, and as nobody knew what was happening with JET, I started a band with Emmanuel Castro and Aaron Eisenberg in my garage basically….I asked Noel Gallagher if he had any ideas for names…and he said “Mystic Knights”…so, given that all the songs were written between midnight and 6am…it felt appropriate. I’m Australian (Melbourne); Manny and Aaron are CA natives…we’re an LA band.
2. How would you describe your music?
It’s a party. It’s all about the backbeat. It’s RocknRoll music – it’s not from any era really…there’s an absence of cut/copy beats…and 100% unfiltered, not rude, just to the point. It’s big on the beat because I’ve been a drummer my whole life.
3. Who are your biggest influences?
People having a good time and remembering our songs.
4. What was the inspiration behind your current single?
Hmmm well, I was having a good time.I was trying to explain how good it feels to not care what anybody thinks – like you’re wearing armor…because I don’t think most people really KNOW that feeling. That and Aaron came over and got some crazy tones with a tiny Fender amp in the bathroom – felt like a party.
5. What would surprise people most about you?
I eat my Weetbix everyday.
– that’s an Australian boys breakfast.
I usually record 2-3 demos everyday. I have really high standards. If a song doesn’t sound memorable to me – it gets thrown away.
