Nirvana! What an epic ALT moment last night at the FireAid Benefit Concert at the Kia Forum with Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, and Krist Novoselic having a Nirvana reunion. They had rotating female lead singers for each song: St. Vincent (“Breed”), Kim Gordon (“School”), Joan Jett (“Territorial Pissings”), and Violet Grohl (“All Apologies”).

Bad Suns “Communicating” (Epitaph)

Los Angeles trio Bad Suns released “Communicating” on January 30th. The feel-good single is their first new music since 2023’s Infinite Joy. 

Lead singer Cristo Bowman explains, “I was driving through Hollywood, palm trees all around me; it struck me as a quintessentially southern Californian moment. I wanted to write a song which captured the essence of what I was experiencing right then and there, as I was suddenly aware of being at the beginning of a new and important chapter in my life. My fiancé and I had just celebrated the 12 year anniversary of our first date, the day before, and we were now in the midst of planning our wedding. Lyrically, I was inspired to reflect and sift through my memories of our earliest times together, back when we couldn’t have possibly predicted what the future held in store for us.”

AWOLNATION “Barbarian”(Two Twenty Five Music/The Orchard)

L.A.’s AWOLNATION released “Barbarian” on January 24th. It’s the follow up to the Top 5 single “Panoramic View” from AWOLNATION’s fifth album, The Phantom Five, released in August 2024.

Lead singer Aaron Bruno says, “When I wrote ‘Barbarian’ I was going through an evolution as an artist and adult while simultaneously reading Franz Kafka’s ‘The Metamorphosis.’ The concept of transformation is what really inspired this song.”
