ALTERNATIVE NEW MUSIC DISCOVERY
The Kooks “Sunny Baby” (Lonely Cat/Virgin Music Group)
Listen & Download HERE.
Brighton, England duo The Kooks released “Sunny Baby” on March 14th. It’s the second song released from the band’s seventh album, Never/Know, out on May 9th. On January 31st, The Kooks released the song “Never Know” from the forthcoming album.
The Kooks lead singer/guitarist Luke Pritchard says, “I wrote Sunny Baby with a similar mentality to Never Know. We’re always told how bad everything is at the moment; everything’s shit – the world’s shit, and I thought to myself, I refuse to let the coming years be anything other than the best years of life, because I’ve got a young family. It’s about me getting to a balanced life; having a family. It’s a love song about someone making me fall back in love with myself.”
Last year, The Kooks collaborated with L.A.’s lovelytheband on a single called “Jeanie” and the two bands will tour together for 16 dates beginning at the end of May. Find the tour dates HERE.
Third Eye Blind “Like A Lullaby” (Mega Collider Records)
Listen & Download HERE.
San Francisco’s Third Eye Blind released “Like A Lullaby” on March 13th via the band’s own label Mega Collider Records via Megaforce. They debuted the new single during a Tiny Desk Concert. It’s the band’s first new music in four years since their seventh album, Our Bande Apart, released in 2021.
Third Eye Blind’s lead singer Stephan Jenkins said, “My songs are emotional reactions to the times I am in. Mostly, they are driven by the subconscious—a dream of the times, if you will. In these days I am concerned with impermanence, legacy, death and what lives on. I wonder where we go when the very idea of empathy is under threat. This is my retort. But it doesn’t matter what I think. What matters is what happens to you when you listen. I hope this song inhabits you with a feeling that feeds you.”
The new single was co-produced by Jenkins and Eric Valentine, who produced the band’s breakthrough self-titled debut album in 1997 featuring hit singles “Semi-Charmed Life”, “How’s It Going To Be”, and “Jumper”.
