Wednesday Alternative Artist Discovery #Happens

July 16th, 2025

Happy Wednesday! This week’s #HAPPENS Alternative Artist Discovery is James And The Cold Gun from South Wales. The band was first discovered by Stone Gossard from Pearl Jam after getting played on KEXP/Seattle. Gossard loved the raw energetic rock and signed the band to his record label, Loosegroove Records in 2022. Prospect Park’s Jeff Kwatinetz cites first hearing their current single “Above The Lake” on SIRIUSXM Alt Nation. He flew to Manchester to see the band perform live and signed them to a multi-album and management deal, a joint venture between Prospect Park and Loosegroove. “Above The Lake” is now chartbound at Alternative. Big thanks to  Darren Eggleston at Egghead Media for VIP Access. Get to know James And The Cold Gun on #HAPPENS Alternative Artist Discovery Of The Week.

Deftones “my mind is a mountain” is #1 Most Added this week on the Mediabase Alternative Add Board. Congrats to Rob Goldklang, David Ravikoff & the Deftones team! The surprise release arrived last Thursday (7/10) and climbs to the top of the add board. It’s from the band’s 10th album, private music, due on August 22nd. Deftones recorded and co-produced the new album with GRAMMY Award-winning producer Nick Raskulinecz, who previously worked with the band on Diamond Eyes [2010] and Koi No Yokan [2012]. The video for “my mind is a mountain” was released yesterday. Check it out HERE.

All Time Low is runner up this week with their new single “The Weather”, just missing #1 Most Added. The band’s new single centers on the tension felt between what’s said and what’s really felt. It’s featured this week on the #HAPPENS Alternative Video Spotlight below.
