1. Please introduce yourself and tell us about your biggest take away growing up with 3 older brothers playing in bands.
What’s up my name is Avrey, my artist name is honestav. I’m from a small town called Pierce City, Missouri and I grew up in a house with 4 older brothers and one older sister. I’m the baby of 6 kids. Having 3 older brothers who are all in bands really shaped my love for music as a young kid. It made me fall in love with the community aspect of music and how you can express yourself through sound. I always looked up to my brothers but the only thing cooler than them was their cool, long haired, punk headed friends who would bring their instruments over and jam out. It’s a culture I’ve always wanted to be a part of from a young age, and my brothers opened my eyes to that when I was like 7/8 years old. I’m lucky to have them.
2. What was it like touring with MOD SUN and lovelytheband in 2024?
Touring with MOD SUN and lovelytheband was Insane. Mod taught me so much as a human, artist, and performer in that short amount of time. It was truly a life changing experience, meeting people who listen to my music in real life really opened my eyes to how many people truly believe in me as a human and artist. Mitchy from lovelytheband also taught me a lot of things, off the stage. and how to handle the stress and overwhelming pressure that comes with life on the road. I’m forever thankful for that opportunity that mod gave me to tour with them. They’ll never know how life changing it was for me.
3. After your massive success with your MOD SUN collaboration on your lead single 'I'd Rather Overdose,' what was the inspiration behind your new single 'Hurts To Fall In Love'?
Mannn, hurts to fall in love just came out of pure heart and soul for what the lyrics stand for. I was going through a lot of change when I wrote this song – life on the road away from family and my girlfriend really put me into this state of feeling like I was a burden to the people I love. Made me feel like my goals and aspirations make it hard to love someone like myself. The lyrics speak for itself but the song came straight from my soul. I’m glad it was received well. I wasn’t chasing the “i’d rather overdose” numbers or high, I wrote hurts to fall in love, out of pure emotion. The lyrics speak for itself. It’s a song that is close to me.
4. Your lyrics have a heavy meaning. What is your songwriting process?
I have to go through shit – to grow through shit. haha my process is, when I feel like I’m about to explode from emotion, whether it be good or bad, I pull out a pen and start writing about what I’m experiencing, it’s a peaceful and useful technique I use to stay alive. lol
5. You grew up as the QB from of your high school football team and you love sports. Who are your favorite sports teams?
haha! I do love sports. Grew up a huge sports guy, played traveling baseball year round until I was probably 16/17 years old. Played football and basketball every year of high school, I love sports to this day! Favorite sports team is easily and by far the Green Bay Packers. GO PACK GO!!! (I’m obsessed lowkey)
