1. Please introduce yourself and give us the backstory on how the band got started.
The band began as a solo studio project in 2019, led by myself (Cullen Moore). I had a clear vision for the music, though in 2021, I met Paolo and we quickly became close. Initially, he was only interested in photography and offered to shoot for free, but I eventually convinced him to join the band, and he picked up the bass.
In late 2022, Paolo introduced me to Ben after discovering that he played drums. When Ben was auditioning, he mentioned that his brother played guitar. Since we were looking for a guitarist, Daniel joined the band a few months later.
For three years, I led the project, with Paolo joining not long after. But by the summer of 2023, Sleep Theory was officially formed.
2. How would you describe your music?
I’d describe Sleep Theory’s music as a fusion of multiple genres, which was my vision for the band from the start. There’s elements of R&B, pop, rock and metal, but other genres too. I wanted to keep our creativity fluid while maintaining a core sound that defines us. There’s a solid foundation to what Sleep Theory is, but everything around it remains flexible and dynamic.
3. Who are your biggest influences?
My biggest influences range from Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars to Emarosa, Saosin, Sum 41, and Scary Kids Scaring Kids, along with Boyz II Men, classic R&B, and post-hardcore music. It’s hard to pinpoint just one main influence because my sound is shaped by a mix of everything I’ve mentioned and that’s just off the top of my head. It barely scratches the surface.
4. What was the inspiration behind your new single, 'Stuck In My Head'?
“Stuck In My Head” is about someone you just can’t shake, no matter what you do. While the feeling can be more annoying than fun, we wanted to make the song both relatable and energetic—which is what makes it so enjoyable.
5. What would surprise people most about you?
I lay it all out there as a person and as a musician so I don’t think there’s really much that would really surprise people. I’m very open and transparent.
