1. Please introduce yourself and give us the backstory on how you got started.
My name is Danny. I started writing songs as a hobby during my final years in the brewing industry. When I left that career, I decided to pursue touring full time in whatever capacity I could, and for the next 10 years played solo shows anywhere that would have me – from sneaking into festivals and playing bathrooms to selling out smoke filled taverns in the middle of nowhere. It progressed from there.
2.How would you describe your music?
At its core it’s just storytelling – an exploration of the human condition through different stories set to a soundtrack.
3. Who are your biggest influences?
My influences change throughout the years. And it would be impossible to just sit on one set of influences because that would mean that no growth has happened at any point. People who I admire, or have admired throughout my life, are other storytellers like John Prine, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Terry Allen and definitely the king of storytelling, Marty Robbins.
4. What was the inspiration behind your current single?
That’s a hard question to answer because having an inspiration for a song would mean that it was predetermined or planned ahead, and I don’t really write music that way. I end up letting the song dictate what it becomes for the most part.
5. What would surprise people most about you?
That I’m not a very serious person at all, and I don’t have grim social tendencies. I tend to enjoy life, maybe a little too much sometimes.
