ALTERNATIVE NEW MUSIC DISCOVERY

Dayglow “Every Little Thing I Say I Do” (Mercury/Republic)

Listen & Download HERE!

Texas native Dayglow (a.k.a. Sloan Struble) kickstarts a new chapter with his single “Every Little Thing I Say I Do” released today. It notably marks his first release since 2022 and official debut on Mercury/Republic Records.

On the single, Struble says, “‘Every Little Thing I Say I Do’ is a song where I’m poking fun at my perfectionism and my desire for control. It’s a pretty ridiculous claim–that I not only do everything perfectly, but also for your benefit–but that’s the point. It’s a toxic and impossible way of being, yet this is the mode I unfortunately tend to be running from in my little homosapien brain. I write songs as a way to better understand myself, and I tend to be fairly harsh sometimes. Once a song is done though, I always feel like I grew up a little bit, and that I was able to see a more realistic glimpse of myself from the outside.

“My hope is that the same effect happens for listeners, too. I hope to make songs that help people self-reflect and become nicer, because I surely always need to. They can totally just dance to the song too, though. It’s pretty damn catchy.”

The single arrives with a homemade self-directed and edited music video. Watch it HERE.

Girl And Girl “Hello” (Sub Pop)

Listen & Download HERE!

Australian 4-piece Girl And Girl “Hello” is from their debut full-length album, Call A Doctor, out May 24th via Sub Pop Records. It’s the full-length follow-up to Girl And Girl’s 2023 8-track EP, Divorce +.

The band’s lead singer Kai James says, “‘Hello’ is the story of a young man who requires daily consults with health professionals in order to rationalise his self-destructive thoughts and routines. It’s about romanticizing your own misery. Letting those deep, dark, dirty thoughts take over. Understanding that even if you could pull yourself out, you wouldn’t because the constant stress and worry are all too familiar and comfortable.”

Girl And Girl are supporting fellow Aussies Royel Otis on U.S. tour dates through May 22. Find the tour dates HERE

New Music Friday #Happens With Frank Turner

UK’s Frank Turner released his 10th studio album, Undefeated, today via Xtra Mile Recordings. The 14 song collection features the banger “Girl From The Record Shop.” He also pre-released the following tracks “No Thank You For The Music” and “Do One.”

Turner says, “After the pandemic, back in the independent world, with a new drummer, I feel proud, grateful and pleasantly surprised to be putting out a record that I love with all my heart, that I think might be one of my best. It’s a defiant, energetic record about growing old disgracefully and making peace with that. I’m still standing up, still have something to share with the world, and I’m excited to let you know about it.

“So, here we go! ‘Do One’ was the final song I wrote for this album. I felt like I needed a song to sum up where I’m at in one short burst – revitalised, rebellious, having fun, and still a sucker for a big singalong. I hope you enjoy the song, and I can’t wait to sing it with you at a show sometime this year.”

Turner’s previous albums are FTHC (2022), No Man’s Land (2019), Be More Kind (2018), Positive Songs for Negative People (2015), Tape Deck Heart (2013), England Keep My Bones (2011), Poetry Of The Deed (2009), Love Ire & Song (2008), and Sleep Is For The Week (2007).

Boston Calling Music Festival on May 25th will kick off U.S. tour dates for Frank Turner. Find the tour dates HERE.
