Matt Pinfield Recovering From Stroke
Matt Pinfield is recovering from a stroke.
The beloved radio veteran and television personality suffered a stroke in Los Angeles on January 6. He is “stabilized and resting,” according to a report from Loudwire, and surrounded by family and loved ones while receiving care.
Matt started in the alternative/rock radio world in the early ’80s. He began hosting MTV’s 120 Minutes in 1995 and regularly appeared as host and correspondent on MTV, MTV2, and VH1 through 1999.
I spoke with Matt in the green room during my second of four auditions for a job at MTV News in 1999. We talked at length about different bands we loved. I soon overheard him telling the MTV News brass that “this guy really knows his shit.”
It was a small moment for him but pivotal for me in my life and career, and I’ve never forgotten it.
After leaving MTV, Matt hosted Farmclub on the USA Network and worked in A&R at Columbia from 2001 to 2006.
His most recent gig is as an afternoon DJ on KCSN-FM. He is also a co-host of the Power Hour , which aired on AXS TV.
About two years ago, I ran into him when we were both invited to be in an Ice Nine Kills music video (I played the bailiff in a courtroom scene; Matt was a jury member). As always, he was gracious and kind.
Yesterday, January 27, TMZ published a story detailing his situation.
All of us at #HAPPENS send our best wishes to Matt and everyone who loves him.
