Akron, OH duo The Black Keys released “The Night Before” on February 7th. It will be part of the band’s upcoming 13th album, No Rain, No Flowers, expected out later this year. On the new single, Dan Auerbach says, “It’s so groove-based. ‘The Night Before’ started with a chord progression that Daniel and I came up with and the rest just fell out. It was really collaborative and all came together in about 30 minutes.” The new music arrives a year after the band’s Ohio Players album and on the heels of a just announced spring leg of their “No Rain, No Flowers Tour” kicking off on May 23rd. The tour will be an especially meaningful return to the road for The Black Keys, who were forced to cancel their 2024 North American Tour following a dispute with their former management company. After the tour was canceled, the consensus was, “Shit happens, and you just have to move through it,” says drummer Patrick Carney. “We were already on a creative streak, and the best thing we could do, rather than sit at home, was just go back in the studio. Get back to work. So, that’s how the record started.” Auerbach adds, “Writing and recording has always been therapy for us, from the very beginning. We communicate best that way. It has always been the thing that’s brought us together, so I’m not surprised at all that we ended up back there so quickly after the last album.” The energy from the duo’s “Record Hangs” with fans spawned a heavy emphasis on grooves and danceability on their new material.
