SET THE SUN recently collaborated with DEMON HUNTER for the song “Falling Apart.” Demon Hunter founder/frontman Ryan Clark told us how the collaboration came about. Watch the music video HERE.
RYAN J. DOWNEY: How did SET THE SUN and DEMON HUNTER get acquainted?
RYAN CLARK: Some years back, Set The Sun emailed me to see if I might be interested in collaborating. I’d never heard of them prior, but I really dug the material they sent me. I’ve always been a fan of heavy music with electronic leanings, so this stuff was right up my alley. I got back to them right away, and we hit it off.
What was the songwriting process like? How do you collaborate?
After recording my feature for their song “Invisible,” Set The Sun sent me the instrumental demos for a couple of songs they were working on. Initially, the idea was for me to simply write the lyrics and melodies—which they would perform themselves—but the band really liked my voice, particularly in “Falling Apart,” so we decided to record the final track as a collaboration.
Although the music is all Set The Sun, both vocalists are featured prominently, so it feels like more than just a feature. In actuality, we had this song in the works a couple of years ago. It took us a bit to circle back and flesh out the final song, but I’m very glad we did. I’m extremely proud of this one. I think it’s one of the catchier melodies I’ve ever written.
Tell me about the lyrics for “Falling Apart.”
“Falling Apart” is about the cycle of self-imposed struggle. Whether it’s addiction or pride or just generally destructive behavior, we’ve all been there. This song explores the pain of feeling trapped in these moments and the frustrations of failing yourself and those around you. #
